Apple Picking is one of America’s greatest fall traditions. While there aren’t any apples for picking in Fells Point, be sure to take some time to check out one of these Maryland farms, not too far from your home at Union Wharf, for apple picking.
Heyser Farm is a beautiful 3rd generation family farm located in Silver Spring, MD. It was established in 1946 and offers apple picking—they even have their very own kind of apple—the Spencerville Red Apple. In addition, Heyser Farm serves as a year round market that sells fresh fruit, sweet cider, local milk, ice cream, honey, jams, and so much more. Last, but definitely not least, don’t forget about their bakery, which offers an assortment of cookies and pies—Mondays are half off pies!
Located in Harford County, this farm is also family owned and was founded in 1928 by the Lohrs. They have the (self-proclaimed) “freshest and sweetest apples in Maryland!” In addition to that, they also operate as a locally grown farmers market. This farm offers a pick your own and retail farm stand operation. When Leaving Lohr’s farm, don’t forget to pick up one of their $20 gift baskets full of locally grown goods.
Baugher’s orchard has been a working fruit and vegetable farm since 1904. On Saturdays and Sundays, you can enjoy picking your own honey crisp apples from 9am-4pm at Baugher’s Farm. The Baugher’s own 600 acres of farmland and have their very own bakery, as well as their own bottled cider.
Weber’s Farm has been around since 1908 and offers apple picking, in addition to many other treats, such as a bakery, farmers market, ice cream, farm fresh turkey, and fun activities for kids. During the fall season, they let the general public pick apples, blackberries, and cut flowers from 9 am – 11 am.
Larriland Farm is a family owned operation that started in 1973. They offer pick your own fruits and veggies for the following: apples, raspberries, tomatoes, potatoes, flowers, and blackberries. They also sell many fruits and goods at their red barn farmers market. If you want more than just apple picking, you can also take a hayride around the property on Saturdays and Sundays.
