Explore the History of Rail Travel at the B & O Railroad Museum

With its eastern terminus in Baltimore, the B & O Railroad was the very first common carrier railroad in the United States. Throughout the month of January, you can celebrate the history of rail transit at the B & O Museum in Pigtown.

In addition to the museum’s collection of historic engines, passenger cars, and other artifacts of the railroad, you’ll find a variety of different events throughout the month. Young children will especially enjoy the Toddler Time events, which include train-themed stories, playtime, and an indoor train carousel. While you’re there, you can pick up tickets for the museum’s springtime Day Out With Thomas experience (featuring — you guessed it — the popular Thomas the Tank Engine character). On Saturdays and Sundays, you can climb aboard a working engine for the historic Mile One Express Rides, and on Saturdays everyone will enjoy checking out the museum’s signature roundhouse turntable demonstration.
